In times of adversity and hardship ASOFIA is a tight knit organisation, and along with the entire Shopfitting fraternity, we were deeply saddened to hear the heartbreaking news that Shaun Oliver, a shopfitter from Ramvek in Victoria, had tragically drowned on Sunday while trying to rescue 4 children caught in a rip at a beach in Wollongong, south of Sydney. Shaun was walking on the beach on Sunday afternoon after work and selflessly dived into treacherous waters to help the children who were struggling in the rough conditions, however, in doing so he was swept further out to sea and tragically lost his life. Through his heroic act of bravery these children were rescued but now his young family is left without a husband and a father. Shaun is survived by his wife of 10 years Carla and his three young children all under the age of 8.
Shaun started at Ramvek as an apprentice 14 years ago and worked his way up through the company to become one of their valued project managers and was in Wollongong overseeing a project at the time of the tragedy.
A number of divisions will be holding fundraising activities at local events to support Shaun’s young family and we also invite all ASOFIA members to consider donating on the GoFundMe page setup for Shaun’s family. It will no doubt be a tough road ahead for Shaun’s family!
Our deepest condolences are extended to Shaun’s family and friends as well as the team at Ramvek.
